The exclusive Epako Game Lodge is set within a private 11,000-hectare nature reserve in Namibia’s Erongo region, home to more than 4,500 mammals — including rhinoceros, leopard and giraffe — as well as over 150 bird species.
The Herero word “Epako” translates as “the corner in a mountain range”, aptly reflecting the lodge’s extraordinary position on the edge of the famous Damaraland. The main lodge comprises a cosy lounge, a dining room, a bar, a media room, a terrace and a wraparound veranda. Every area offers spectacular views of the floodlit waterhole, providing outstanding wildlife-watching without the need to set out on a game drive.
Epako also features a beautiful pool, especially welcome on hot afternoons. The undisputed star of the lodge is Oscar the giraffe, the resident “pet”, who roams the grounds freely and can even be fed and stroked. Another highlight is the neighbouring cheetah rewilding programme, which can include a cheetah feeding as part of the offered game drive.
