No mandatory vaccinations are required when entering directly from Germany.

When entering via a yellow fever region, proof of a yellow fever vaccination must be provided. This applies to all travellers who have completed their first year of life.

Recommended travel vaccinations include Hepatitis A, and for longer stays, vaccinations against Hepatitis B, typhoid, rabies, and meningococcal disease (ACWY).

To prevent diarrhoeal diseases such as cholera, ensure you only use water from safe sources (both for drinking and for brushing your teeth, for example). Use bottled drinking water and never tap water.

The disease is very effectively treated with antibiotics when detected early.
If left untreated, liver and kidney damage up to organ failure may occur.

Safety

The crime rate in the Seychelles is low. However, petty crime such as pickpocketing may occur at busy locations and on beaches on Praslin.

There have been isolated reports of tourists being robbed during trekking tours or of parked cars being broken into.

In the waters around the various islands, a low risk of piracy persists.

Further Advisories

In the waters around the islands, there is a low risk of shark encounters. Along the coast of Praslin, there have been several fatal shark attacks in recent years.

In certain areas, strong ocean currents prevail. Warning signs must be strictly observed, as there is a danger to life.

Location & Climate

The Seychelles are an archipelago in the Indian Ocean, approximately 1,500 kilometres from the East African coast.
Proximity to the equator results in a tropical climate with only very minor fluctuations throughout the year.

Daytime temperatures hover around the 30°C mark all year round. Temperatures rarely rise significantly above 30°C at midday. At night, the temperature drops to approximately 25°C.
The weather is therefore not determined by seasons but by the monsoon.

From December to March, the wet northwest monsoon prevails, bringing sometimes heavy rain showers and thunderstorms across the Seychelles. These are usually short-lived, however, and even during these months the Seychelles enjoy many hours of sunshine.

From May to October, the southeast trade winds blow, bringing drier air. Temperatures are usually cooler than from December to March, and the air is more pleasant. However, the southeast trade winds also occasionally bring heavy rain showers, which likewise typically last only a few hours.

Although the southeast trade winds are characterised by strong winds that can create rough seas on certain days, none of the Seychelles islands are at risk of tropical cyclones.

Luxury Travel Seychelles: Landmarks

Bird Island

The northernmost island of the Seychelles lies approximately 100 km from the main island of Mahe. The small island owes its name to the large seabird populations that nest here and use the little isle as a refuge.

The island also provides nesting sites for sea turtles. During the breeding season, a spectacular display unfolds as approximately 750,000 swallow pairs raise their young on the roughly 0.8 km² island.

Bird Island is privately owned and thus offers undisturbed nature. Only a charming lodge with a handful of bungalows can be found on this jewel of the Seychelles. In this idyllic spot, you can lean back, relax, and let your soul unwind.

Sainte Anne Marine National Park

This national park encompasses approximately 15 km² of marine area within its protected zone and was the first marine conservation area in the Indian Ocean.

Five islands are located within the national park. They not only have a fascinating history but are also a refuge for numerous animal species today and home to a rich fauna.

The national park lies only about 5 km from the capital of the Seychelles, making it an excellent choice for a day trip. On a boat tour, you can observe the countless birds and other animals living on the individual islands. Or you can plunge into the azure-blue waters of the Indian Ocean and dive or snorkel through the impressive reefs that have formed around the islands.

Anse Lazio

A picturesque patch of earth on the island of Praslin that could have been taken straight from a catalogue.

Anse Lazio is a beach on the wonderful island of Praslin, picturesquely framed by the azure-blue waters of the sea and the emerald shimmer of the dense jungle. The long, white sandy beach is ideal for extended walks.

As you feel the fine sand beneath your feet, a gentle breeze carries fresh sea air to the shore, and you can enjoy an undisturbed, perfect day on this perfect dream beach.

At both ends of the beach, large and small rocks in the water also form ideal spots for snorkelling and discovering the fascinating underwater world.

Luxury Holiday Seychelles: Reasons to Visit

The Seychelles are first and foremost an outstanding beach destination. The sea is warm, and in the various bays protected by rocks from strong currents, you can swim without worry. The gently sloping beaches are also very child-friendly and therefore ideal for large and small families alike.

The underwater world of the Seychelles is unique and a special experience for both novice and experienced divers. Marine protected areas and rocky coastal sections offer numerous dive sites that are home to a wide variety of marine life. The main islands of Mahe and Praslin alone offer nearly 50 different dive sites, each providing a unique and unforgettable experience.

Colourful coral reefs can be found in the coastal areas of almost all islands, and the coastal sections — often dominated by large granite boulders — surprise with extraordinary underwater canyons and caves where octopuses and barracudas can be found. A special highlight occurs from July to October, when whale sharks pass through the waters of the Seychelles and can be marvelled at up close.

The impressive flora and fauna of the island world also invite extended hikes and explorations. Nearly half of the Seychelles are designated as national parkland, offering pristine nature that can be explored to your heart’s content along marked trails.
