Luxury Travel Finland: General Travel Information

Visa
EU citizens and Swiss nationals can enter Finland freely.
Non-EU citizens require a valid visa or entry authorisation for the Schengen area, depending on nationality. Finland is part of the Schengen area, so nationals who require a visa generally need a Schengen visa for stays of up to 90 days per 180-day period.

Entry Requirements
A valid passport or identity card (for EU/Swiss nationals) and, depending on the country of origin, additional documents (e.g. visa) are required upon entry to Finland. Travel documents should be valid beyond the planned duration of stay.
The import of certain goods is regulated or prohibited. Please observe the applicable customs and import regulations.

Currency
The official currency is the Euro (EUR).
Card payment is very common in Finland and is possible without any issues in most shops, restaurants and hotels. Cash is accepted but is often not necessary in everyday life.

Health Advisory
Medical care in Finland is very good, particularly in cities and tourist areas. There are no particular health risks; special vaccinations are generally not required. Travel health insurance is nevertheless recommended.

Location & Climate

Finland is located in Northern Europe and borders Sweden, Norway and Russia. To the south and west, the country is surrounded by the Baltic Sea. The landscape is characterised by extensive forests and lake landscapes, while the north (Lapland) has a more arctic character.

The climate is overall cool-temperate to subarctic:

  • South (e.g. Helsinki, Turku): mild to cool summers, cold winters, changeable weather.

  • Lake District & Inland: more pronounced seasons, frequently snowy in winter.

  • Lapland: long, very cold winters with stable snow cover; pleasantly cool summers with long days.

Attractions

Helsinki

Finland’s capital combines Nordic design, modern architecture and a maritime atmosphere. Highlights include the vibrant market culture, museums and the proximity to the archipelago, which is ideal for day trips.

Suomenlinna (Sea Fortress)

The historic fortress island off Helsinki (UNESCO) offers an impressive insight into Finland’s history. It is accessible by ferry and is excellently suited for a half-day excursion.

Rovaniemi & Lapland

Rovaniemi is considered the gateway to Lapland and is an ideal starting point for winter experiences such as Northern Lights viewing, snow safaris and nature excursions. The region also features exclusive lodges and unique accommodation.

(Highlights) Reasons to Travel

Finland is perfect for travellers who value nature, privacy and quality. In winter, the focus is on experiences such as Northern Lights, husky tours, reindeer safaris and snow-covered landscapes. In summer, the country delights with lakes, national parks, long days and a very relaxed way of travelling.

Another highlight is the Finnish sauna culture, which is frequently combined with extraordinary natural settings, as well as the culinary scene, which is strongly seasonal and places regional produce at its centre.
